$50 Bedroom Makeover

By shopping at thrift stores and making do with what we had, I helped a good friend redecorate her daughter’s room – and we only spent $50!

Amy’s new room took us one day’s work; it took about half a day to put the paint on the walls. (That’s with the help of a 4 year old girl.)

To redecorate, we created a design around a quilt that Amy had received from her grandmother as a gift. We purchased all of our supplies from the thrift store over a one month period. We had to go about 5-6 times, but you have to be patient and then you reap the savings.

For color on the wall behind the bed, we used a twin sheet purchased for $1. I ironed the sheet and then used the staple gun to get it on the wall. I hung the canopy with a hook we already had and then gathered it and stapled the gather – adding a tassel. We found the tassels for $.12 each on clearance after Christmas.

Amy wanted a tall “princess” bed, so we used bricks from the garage and put one under each leg. We removed the wheels from the bed frame. Then we put a board on top of the bricks for stability. Amy’s bed frame is now about 12 inches feet off the ground so use the space under the bed for storing toys.

My aunt made dolls to go with Amy’s comforter from material she already had. The one thing we bought new retail were some $10 fluffy pillows.

Welcome!
